Step 1: Blast the Sole
Start by scraping off as much mud and dirt as possible. Use the Nomad to blast the dirt from the tread.
Step2: Rinse, Scrub and Rinse The Uppers
Set the Nomad nozzle on a low pressure and gently rinse the uppers. Scrub with a mild detergent. Some shoes and boots can be brightened with a more aggressive bleach or whitening detergent, but always check the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.
Rinse again. Stuff them with newspaper or towels. Change the stuffing once or twice and allow them to air dry. Never place your shoes or boots close to a campfire or heat source. Rapid drying can cause cracking.
Step 3: Pull out the Laces
Why do this last instead of first? Simple. By keeping the laces in, you can minimize the amount of water that splashes into the shoe. (This may not be an issue if you spent the day knee-deep in water, crossing streams.) Place the laces into a sock and knot the sock. Soak them in a bucket of water and detergent. Remove the sock and rinse thoroughly with a Nomad. The sock will keep the laces in place as you rinse them. Hang the laces to dry.
